Reliance industries has a habit of making grand launches and the launch of Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited was no different. It took the telecom and mobile market by storm, by launching absolutely free calls and internet during the initial stage of the launch. It was clear that Jio will not be just confined to providing voice and internet services. Jio offers Mobile Broadband, Co-branded Jio Smart Phones and Feature Phones, Jio WIFI, Jio Fiber or Jio GigaFiber and Jio App or Jio TV as we know it.
Although Jio services were launched in 2018, JioFiber was launched on 5th September 2019. I know you are anxious to know all about it, so let’s not keep you waiting.

Welcome Offer: Where is my 4K TV??
All that shines is not gold. Does it mean there is no free TV available? That is not true, but then you do not get the free TV with all the plans either, plus you need to pay for the Annual Plan upfront. The Free TV starts with the Gold Plan where you get a 24-inch HD TV (and not a 4K TV) worth Rs 12,990 with a 2 YEAR PLAN. With the Diamond you again get the same 24-inch TV with a 1-year plan. A 32-inch HD TV worth Rs. 22,990 with the Platinum plan and the ultimate 43-inch Ultra HD 4K TV with the Titanium Plan. The Bronze and Silver will have to settle with MUSE 2 – 6W Bluetooth Speaker MRP Rs. 2,999 and THUMP 2 – 12W Bluetooth Speaker MRP Rs. 3,999, respectively.
Well, if you are not interested in the Speakers or the TV, you can choose either an Extra 2 Months of services or Double the amount of Data absolutely free.
Welcome offer from Jio also includes Jio Home Gateway worth Rs 5,000, a 4K Set-top-box worth Rs 6,400 free with all the plans.
Is it really worth it?
It is not easy to fool an Indian, and I am sure you all have your Chacha Chowdhary (remember our good old Chacha Chowdhary from Pran Comics) brain at work doing the math. Some might have pulled out their calculators as well. Don’t sweat it out guys, because I have done the homework for you. So let’s try to analyze the ROI or “itne mein kitna milta hai” (how much we are getting in return).
Let us look at each plan and the cost of their annual package in return of the offers.
|Plan Cost||Welcome Offer Options|
|Plans||Monthly Cost||Annual Cost||Device||2-month extra||Extra Data|
|Bronze||Rs. 699||Rs. 8,388||Rs. 2,999||Rs. 1,498||2400GB|
|Silver||Rs. 849||Rs. 10,188||Rs. 3,999||Rs. 1,698||4800GB|
|Gold||Rs. 1,299||Rs. 15,588||Rs. 12,990||Rs. 2,598||12000GB|
|Diamond||Rs. 2,499||Rs. 29,988||Rs. 12,990||Rs. 4,998||30000GB|
|Platinum||Rs. 3,999||Rs. 47,988||Rs. 22,990||Rs. 7,998||60000GB|
|Titanium||Rs. 8,499||Rs. 101,998||Rs. 44,990||Rs. 16,998||120000GB|
Important thing to note is that the prices are not inclusive of GST. Now coming to the welcome offer options and I will straight away discard the 2 month extra option as it is not of any value in comparison to other two options. Now the big question, the extra Data or the TV (or speaker)?
If I were in your place, I would choose the data any day and there are reasons behind it.
Reason #1: We are talking about internet connection here and data is king. Double data means you are getting double the value or 100% profit. The TV give you about 40% return and 2 months extra gives you 20% return. I would choose 100% any day.
Reason #2: Out of the Jio LED TVs being offered, the decent ones starts with the Platinum Plan which costs Rs 3,999 and annually Rs 47,988. I am sure a home user will probably not need this plan. But if you are a business, again it is better to choose the data option.
Reason #3: There is no clarity on the brand or the actual selling price of these LED TVs. These days most of the electronics sell at a lower price than the price, or some discounts are always on offer. Let’s assume that the TV is of a premium brand, still I am sure I can find that TV at a lower price in the market. So, my real return might be even less than 40%.
Would you like to buy a LED TV of someone else’s choice, or rather select from the numerous options available in the online and offline market. We have comprehensive articles on Best 32-inch LED TV, Mi LED TV and other reviews that will help pick the best of the lot.
Now you may be getting the LED TV with all the plans, but you do get a 4K Set-top-box with every connection at free of cost. Now, although this is being called a Set-top-box, but this is not like the conventional Set-top-boxes, that you get with Tata Sky, Airtel or your local cable connection. This is more of a device that allow you to stream online content on your TV. You also get a number of OTT or Over-The-Top apps.
This is actually a good offer and what ever content you view will be through your internet connection. So the box maybe free, but the apps, their subscription is not free. Also if you are watching content only through this box, then you will need a good amount of data (to prove my earlier point of why to pick data). To give you an idea, the data consumption on an average TV viewing would be around 200GB – 300GB per month.
Jio Home Phone or Fixed Landline Connection
Along with Jio Fiber Broadband, you also get a fixed landline connection which company calls it as Jio Home Phone. If offers unlimited free calls both incoming and outgoing. The landline phone works on VoLTE technology i.e. Voice over Long Term Evolution. This technology is capable of handling 3 times the voice and data capacity over regular 3G network.
Jio has come up with yet another unique feature for the landline as well. You can use your smartphone can act as a landline phone and you can make calls using the Jio Fiber WIFI network. The only thing is that your mobile should be connected to the Jio WIFI network. To use this feature, first you need to activate Jio FixedVoice service and get your unique FixedVoice number. Once you receive the landline number, connect your landline phone into the RJ-11 port in the router. Make sure to keep the landline tone is set to ‘Tone’ and not on ‘Pulse’, else it will not work. Now install JIO4GVOICE app on your smartphone. You phone should be connected to Jio WIFI network and you will automatically receive an OTP to activate the app. That’s it!! Now you can use your mobile to make calls using the Jio Fixed Line number.
Installation & Setup
There is a one time cost of Rs 2,500 which includes a security deposit Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000 of installation cost. The security deposit is refundable, whereas the installation cost is not refundable.
For the home setup, engineers from Jio Fiber will visit your home and install a fiber optic cable. If you have any other cables installed from your previous broadband connection will be useless.
Jio has once again stirred the broadband market with the introduction of these plans. The welcome offer of opting a LED TV, Double Data or 2 Months extra is certainly first in the segment.
LED TV definitely sounds the most exciting of the choices, but not the best. You should go for the double data option.
As for the overall plans are concerned, they can be more competitive with local players offers cheaper plans as well. But the overall connectivity and network of more than 250,000 km of fiber optic cables throughout the country is unmatched. With Jio you will get a much more reliable connectivity specially compared to the local players who offer better plans at cheaper rates.
So if you are planning to subscribe to any of the Jio Fiber plans, visit the company website and select the plan.
